Oyana

Oyana is a social enterprise project which works with a community of women in Kenya to overcome the high poverty levels and gender inequality rampant in the area. They achieve this by helping these women to establish their own soap-making business. The self-employment this provides, and the new skills the beneficiaries acquire, helps them to generate a reliable income. The funding they require for the training, equipment and transport needed in this venture is provided by Oyana’s UK based soap business. The UK branch is managed and operated by students who hand-make Oyana’s signature soaps and sell them on their website and at pop-ups. All profits are then reinvested, and work to tackle 3 UN Social Development Goals in the community - Gender Inequality, No Poverty, and Decent Work and Economic Growth!
